What Makes the Perfect Running Music?
As an avid runner, I’ve come back to this question again and again.
From my experience, it’s not just about the specific tracks you’re listening to; it’s also about how well the tempo of the music aligns with your running cadence.
The key is to synchronize your steps with the music’s underlying beat.
To achieve this, you need music with a sufficiently high BPM (beats per minute), ideally in the 150–170 BPM range.
For beginners, I’ve found that 160 BPM is the sweet spot.
By matching your SPM (steps per minute), or running cadence, with the BPM of the music, you can truly elevate your running experience.
Right foot: kick. Left foot: snare. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat.
A word of caution: syncing your runs to a consistent BPM can be entrancing, so remember to stay alert at traffic lights and watch out for vehicles. Don’t get into any accidents.
With that out of the way, enjoy this mix I’ve curated for you—an eclectic blend of electronic dance music and cutting-edge, weird pop.
